The points scorecard after the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Series race in Norwalk, Ohio looked much different than it did the week before. The standings were jumbled around after some big upsets in qualifying and first round. Right now, only 12 points separate the first place driver from the fourth place driver.
When Mike Janis took home the win and the Wally this past weekend in Norwalk, he also made a good size jump in points going from sixth to third place. “We thought we would be racing for second place in points all year; this is a good kick in the butt,” said Janis.
Bob Rahaim took over the top spot, as his 2015 Corvette continued to lay down stellar runs. “We were kind of on pins and needles because we weren’t in the show until the last session,” said Rahaim. “My team went back and analyzed all the data, they found something not right, they put back in what they knew was going to run well, and it was low of that round and in the first round we ran low of the meet.”
While Troy Coughlin made it to the final round, which would have put him in first place, he was stripped 30 points for leaking oil on to the race track during semi-final and final rounds.
Some front-runners who slipped in the points were Don Walsh Jr, defending Champion Rickie Smith and Billy Glidden. Walsh came into the race in the #1 spot, but a DNQ sent him down to 4th place. Smith & Glidden, who were both eliminated during the first round, dropped two positions each.
