The first three races of the season have certainly been exciting for Rickie Smith. He went to the final round in all three of them and came out as the champ in two: the first race in Gainesville and the most recent one in Atlanta. In Houston, his car decided to take him on a bit of a ride and he crossed the center line in front of Jim Whiteley and tapped the wall on both sides of the track. Crossing the center line and tapping the wall are both things that immediately disqualify you.
After his run-in with the wall in Houston, he took his car straight to Jerry Bickle’s shop, where they thrashed for two weeks to get the car ready for Atlanta. And the rest is history.
After the final rount, he stated: “I appreciate it and I’m just proud to still be out here, being able to go up and down this race track and do what I do.”
Right now, Rickie leads the pack in points, with a whopping 331 points. He’s followed by Danny Rowe and Steve Matusek, with Troy Coughlin and Michael Biehle rounding out the Top 5. To see the current points standings, click here.
