The second season for the Real Pro Mod (RPM) Association kicked off last weekend in Gainesville with the J&A NHRA Pro Mod Series presented by Jerry Bickel Race Cars. Bob Rahaim took home his first NHRA win ever when he defeated Pete Farber in the final round.
The RPM was developed to promote and preserve the Pro Mod class by securing sponsorships, encouraging diversity within the class to attract more fans and keep the class growing for years to come. The RPM has proven to be a success with the Pro Mod class consistently filling up the NHRA entry list to 100% and gaining new sponsors to support all the drivers.
One of the new RPM awards this year is the Quick Drive #1 Qualifier Award. In Gainesville this award went to Don Walsh Jr. who drove his Precision Turbo & Engine/DMG MORI ELLISION Camaro to the number one spot with a 5.83 E.T. at 248 mph. Walsh then went on to set low E.T. of the event in round one of eliminations with a 5.82.
The Larry Jeffers Race Car Best Reaction Time Award was given to Billy Glidden, who cut a .006 light in the first round of eliminations against defending NHRA Pro Mod Champion, Rickie Smith.
This is also the second year of the RPM Round Rewards Program sponsored by Protect The Harvest, Precision Turbo & Engine, Aeromotive, RedHorse Performance, JEGS, RPM, Jerry Bickel Race Cars and new this year, Lamb Components, Kinzer Drilling and Quick Drive. Bonuses are handed out to drivers depending on where they finish on elimination day. Round one bonuses were handed out to: Khalid alBalooshi, Mike Castellana, Danny Rowe, Kevin Fiscus, Kenny Lang, Rickie Smith, Steve Matusek and Mike Knowles. Round 2 bonuses: Don Walsh Jr., Mike Janis, Bill Glidden and Eric Latino. Semi-Final bonuses: Troy Coughlin and TJ Coughlin.
Next up for the RPM is the J&A NHRA Pro Mod Series in Houston on April 24th – 26th.
