NHRA announced today it has named the Real Pro Mod Association (RPM) as the presenting sponsor for the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the NHRA Carolina Nationals, Sept. 16-18, at zMAX Dragway. The is the eighth event in the 10-race NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series.

The 2016 season is rapidly ending and the points battles are tightening up in the wildly popular category. Von Smith won his first race of the season when he defeated Troy Coughlin at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals is fourth in points. Coughlin, who has one win this season, is currently second and trails points leader Rickie Smith by 87 markers. R. Smith, a two-time world champion, has won twice this season to put him in the top spot. Jim Whiteley and Billy Glidden have also won races during the course of the daunting year.
Featuring the world’s fastest and most unique doorslammer race cars, the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series offers something for every kind of hot-rodding enthusiast. The growing class is highlighted by historic muscle cars, like ’67 Mustangs, ’68 Firebirds and ’69 Camaros, as well as a variety of late model American muscle cars. With more than 3,000 horsepower, the suspended door pro mod cars travel the quarter-mile in less than six seconds at speeds exceeding 250 mph.
The RPM Association was created by Pro Mod team owners and drivers to preserve and promote the future of the thrilling category. Pro Mods are touted as the fuel altereds of the 21st century. RPM is committed to secure sponsorship so the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, provide input to NHRA on rule changes to achieve parity between the different power adder combinations, promote diversity within the class to invite spectator interest and involvement as well as maintaining the most exciting and competitive door to door racing on the planet

The 2016 NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series is showcased in a 10-race schedule that includes stops at several NHRA national events across the country. All 10 races in the 2016 NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series season will air on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) and FOX Sports 2 (FS2).
