PETE FARBER RACING qualified for the Pro Mod class at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis, MO on September 25-27, 2015.
Fresh off his strong qualifying performance that the previous 8th Annual NHRA Carolina Nationals event, driver Pete Farber was confident in his supercharged CRC Automotive Brākleen ’69 Dodge Daytona’s ability to get the job done once more and the car did not disappoint.
The first Pro Mod qualifying session took place on Friday afternoon in St. Louis, and Farber ran into a bit of unexpected trouble early on in his run. He lost traction due to tire shake, but expertly pedaled the car so that he could get it to hook up again. He then got back on the throttle and crossed through the traps to light the boards with a 6.273 at 242.06 mph pass. The run temporarily put him on the bump spot in the number sixteen position.
Later that evening, Farber arrived in the staging lanes ready to do business. After a big, smoky burnout, Farber put his Daytona into the beams and awaited the flash of green to begin his second qualifying run. He got the signal to start, and went straight down the groove with a textbook-clean pass. Farber clicked off an impressive 0.986-second run to the sixty-foot marker, and crossed the half-track mark in just 3.934-seconds. His final quarter-mile time of 5.943-seconds at 246.75 mph moved him up into tenth, safely away from the bump.
Saturday’s third and final round of qualifying resulted in even more improvement, and his 5.933 at 247.34 mph run was both his quickest and fastest so far. When the final results were in, Farber had ranked fifteenth in an extremely competitive field where the cut off for the Top 16 was 5.944.
For the first round of eliminations, Farber was paired against series points leader Mike Janis. Farber cut a good light and had his best run of the weekend – a 5.926 at 246.80 mph pass – but it wasn’t enough to get the win.
“Thanks to the crew for a great race and everyone for their continued support!” said Farber, who will be working overtime in order to prepare for the next and last race of the season. “We want to come out stronger than ever for the Las Vegas race and finish out the year on a high note.”
Farber, who is currently tenth in the NHRA Pro Mod championship series points, will race at the NHRA Pro Mod season finale event, the 15th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 29-November 1, 2015.
