As the NHRA Pro Mod Series ends its season in Las Vegas in a few weeks, the championship is still too close to call. Rickie Smith is the current points leader coming into the race, but Troy Coughlin, Mike Janis and Von Smith are all less than 100 points behind him.
Racing two events last weekend shook up the Pro Mod points standings. Pro Mod finished the delayed NHRA Carolina Nationals from Charlotte presented by Powerocks on Friday and Saturday, then went on to race the NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Precision Turbo & Engine on Sunday.
Troy Coughlin was #7 in points leaving Indy, he now currently sits in the #2 position after winning the Charlotte race and going to the quarter finals in St. Louis. Von Smith’s final round appearance in St. Louis put him ahead of Danny Rowe and Steve Matusek to grab the #4 spot. Mike Janis went to the finals of the Charlotte race, but an early exit in the St. Louis race bumped him down to the #3 spot. Winner Mike Knowles played the role of spoiler last weekend, starting in the #14 qualifying spot – and winning the St Louis event. Knowles jumped from #13 in points, to #10.
