Everyone at Mike Janis Racing has been busy since the last NHRA Pro Mod race in Norwalk and they are working hard to prepare for the 60th Annual U.S. Nationals August 29th – September 1st. Janis is currently in 2nd place, just 11 points out of first.
“We have been working overtime every day to give it our best shot at regaining the points lead and winning the NHRA Pro Mod Championship,” said Janis. “Being one of the lowest funded teams out there makes us work extra hard; we really have to think outside of the box, but we just make due the best we can.”
The Janis Racing team competed in the PDRA race in Richmond, Virginia July 25-26 and ran the car in the Pro Boost class. They kept the car 100% NHRA legal and showed up with a completely different engine and drive train set-up. “The Pro Boost class lets you be 50 pounds lighter and there is no overdrive limit. We kept everything legal, qualified 3rd and made it to the semi-finals only losing by 3 thousandths,” said Janis. “It was a great test session and we were really happy with the performance for the conditions.”
Deciding they just weren’t satisfied enough and needed to be stronger before Indy, Janis is scheduled to participate at the Indy test session Wednesday, August 20th along with several other Real Pro Mod (RPM) association teams. “We want to make sure all of our ducks are in a row so we can repeat last year and go for the win!”
With all the hard work and racing, family still remains number one to Janis. He recently spent a week vacation in California to celebrate his 37th wedding anniversary with his wife Michelle and welcomed another grandchild to his family, Camden James Janis.
