Elma, NY – Mike Janis and his Mike Janis Racing (MJR) Team have nothing to hang their heads about as the 2015 season has come to an end on the track. Janis finished second in the 2015 NHRA Pro Mod World Championship points standings, a mere fourteen points out of first place which is less than one round. Janis, who is also referred to as “The People’s Champ” because of what he brings to the sport, could not be more proud of his organization and what it stands for.
“What an incredible year” said Mike Janis, Owner/Driver at MJR. “To be able to finish second in the world is just awesome. Obviously if we would’ve walked away with the championship that for sure would’ve been better, but there are a lot of other guys behind us who would have loved to be in our spot. All of our partners, customers, family, friends, and fans who support this organization we can’t thank you guys enough. We brought a very exciting program to the table this year for everyone to watch along the way. Whether is was “on the track” or “off the track,” there is no doubt we kept it interesting and exciting for everyone involved. Hands down Pro Mod is one of the most exciting classes in all of drag racing. There are over thirty cars at every event trying to qualify for sixteen spots, that in itself is a big deal. No doubt our most memorable moment of the year came when we won NHRA Norwalk, Ohio back in July. Norwalk had been a track which we had trouble at for the past thirty years! Qualified great a bunch of times, went many rounds, even made it to the finals a few times, but we never could pull a win off at that place. Something would always go wrong and we would come up just short. This year we finally managed to finish the deal! Not only did we take home the Wally, we were also taken back when my father’s old Willy’s showed up in our pits. The car has been missing for the last forty years and it turned out a local from the area is the current owner. Honestly, winning the championship could not have beat that weekend. We had more family, friends, and fans hanging out with us than any other team on the grounds that weekend. A completely surreal weekend to say the least. We will be back in 2016 stronger than ever, and will fight again to make a run at the championship” said an elated Janis.
“2015 was really a season “on track” that we weren’t even sure if it was going to happen or not” said Mike Janis Jr., GM/Crew Chief at MJR. “I remember coming home from NHRA Vegas back in November 2014 feeling beat up and kicked to the ground. We really didn’t have any deals going into 2015 and were very close to hanging it up. I remember taking a full week just to regroup and evaluate what we were going to do. I remember looking at my dad and just the blank look on his face as if he didn’t know what to do. It was then and there I vowed to make 2015 happen for him, our team and all of our supporters. Hard work paid off, we never quit and I am sure glad after seeing how 2015 played out that we were fortunate enough to stick with it. NHRA Pro Modified is such a competitive class and you really need to be on top of your game both on and off the track if you want to run up front. We are just so very blessed and honored that so many great partners see the value in our team and they understand what we bring to the table. We race and work hard “on the track,” but work even harder “off the track” to make sure all of our partners are represented with the upmost respect. It is not just a one way road……they invest in us, and we need to equally invest just as much back. We are very excited for the 2016 racing season. Our season actually never ended as we are preparing for our brand new Wally Stroupe Race Cars built 2016 Chevy Camaro to be making its debut at the 2015 PRI Show in Indianapolis, Indiana December 10-12 at the Strange Engineering booth. We do not know what design or colors the car will be flying just yet as we are still working on some deals, but I can tell you I don’t think I have personally been this excited in quite a while. Wally Stroupe has built us one of the nicest cars we have personally ever owned. Jeff Strange and his team at Strange Engineering has equipped this car with the latest and greatest suspension components the market has ever seen. Mike Hewitt and the guys at Sparco USA have provided us with the best safety equipment out there today and without the support of these great companies this project wouldn’t have been possible” said Janis Jr.
