Want a Pro Mod? Larry Jeffers Race Cars can build an entire car – you just get in and drive. The Real Pro Mod (RPM) association sponsor of the “Best Reaction Time Award” at all 10-NHRA Pro Mod Series races builds everything in house; Larry Jeffers himself does all the painting on these door slammers. As this class of racing grows, so does the business.
Harry Hruska recently unveiled his new Camaro built at Larry Jeffers Race Cars and Chris Juliano’s Mustang was also turned out here. The Mustang Todd Tutterow has been very successful in is a Larry Jeffers production, and they also built a new Pro Mod car for NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster Champion, Jim Whiteley, in his pursuit of a new class championship.
David Zientara of Larry Jeffers Race Cars explained why everybody at this company is so passionate about RPM and love Pro Mod racing.
“Pro Mod cars have character; the drivers have character. Pro Mods are the modern day fuel altered. They have the most amount of power in the shortest wheel base of a suspension vehicle. Pro Mod competition is the tightest it’s been since its inception; anybody can win a race.”
The only downside of success: being too busy to actually to travel to the events and watch their cars race and win. “There is no such thing as time off,” said Zientara. “We have so many orders right now, that we have to be here at the shop to get things done.”
This year in the NHRA Pro Mod Series, Larry Jeffers Race Cars gives an award every race to the RPM driver with the best reaction time – on a winning run. (The last part is important to mention, since Danny Rowe cut a perfect light in Englishtown, but lost the round and the bonus.)
“Larry came up with the idea, because we wanted an award – that rewards the person sitting in the seat. This bonus takes into the account the ‘human variable,’” said Zientara. You can have the best performing car, but if you have a bad reaction time, that can cost you the race.”
As for the future of NHRA Pro Mod racing, Larry Jeffers Race Cars sees the category growing even more and they are currently working on a more powerful car that is on the cutting edge of technology.
