Baldwinville, MA – September 7, 2015 – PETE FARBER RACING was part of a monumental event as the team attempted to qualify in the quickest Pro Mod field in history while racing at the NHRA Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals event at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 4-7, 2015.
A huge field of thirty-three highly competitive Pro Mod cars showed up in Indy for “The Big Go” event. Qualifying began on Friday evening, and many drivers had a tough time getting down the track due to a challenging surface. Farber also fell victim to the conditions, and encountered tire shake with his supercharged CRC Automotive Brākleen ’69 Dodge Daytona shortly after the start. He pedaled the car to regain traction, and continued on to run 6.446 at 237.92 mph which placed him twenty-sixth. The team regrouped and quickly got to work adjusting the car in order to avoid a repeat performance.
The second round of qualifying began on Saturday afternoon, and Farber improved significantly over the previous day’s run. The team’s work had paid off, and Farber was rewarded with a 5.997 at 243.94 mph run which moved him up into fifteenth. Later that evening, the Pro Mod cars were called to the lanes for the third round of qualifying. Farber arrived hopeful that he could further improve his numbers and solidify his place in the Top 16, but it was not meant to be. A bit of a struggle to get the car into its groove during the first half of Farber’s run yielded a 6.151 at 241.11 mph time slip, and he was pushed down into twentieth.
As the prestigious U.S. Nationals race takes place over the course of four days rather than NHRA’s standard three, the Pro Mod class enjoyed an extra round of qualifying. On Sunday morning, Farber staged his CRC Daytona confidently. The amber lights flashed, the green illuminated, and Farber was off and running. He had a great 0.999-second sixty-foot time, and flew to the eighth-mile marker in 3.949 seconds at 191.81 mph. By the time he had crossed through the traps and stopped the clocks, Farber had put down a 5.971 at 244.87 mph run.
Unfortunately, the bump spot to get into the show had been set at 5.940 and Farber missed the mark by the slimmest of margins. “We gave it our best shot in the quickest field in NHRA history!” said Farber, who was pleased with how things went at the historic event, despite not making it through to eliminations. “We didn’t qualify, but the best in the world are here and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
Farber, who is currently ninth in the NHRA Pro Mod championship series points, will race at the upcoming NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina on September 18-20, 2015.
