(2-26-2016) JUPITER, Florida – Danny Rowe and Steve Matusek, two of fast doorslammer racing’s biggest personalities, couldn’t be more excited to get the 2016 racing season underway, but not simply because they’re eager to get behind the wheel of their respective Agave Underground Tequila and Aeromotive Fuel Systems-sponsored Pro Mods.
Of course, Rowe and Matusek are excited to put their legendary crew chief Jimmy Rector’s offseason efforts on display, yet it’s the event this weekend at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) itself that has them already swelling with pride.
“This is big for Pro Mod,” said Rowe, checking in from the pits at PBIR, where his team has been testing all week. “To have a world-class facility like the one here in Palm Beach reach out to us and specifically want to bring in the Real Pro Mod (RPM) group and have a race, in my opinion, really shows you how far we’ve come with this brand of drag racing. Not only did they reach out to us, they put together a national event-level purse and secured a title-rights sponsor in Bennett Auto Supply.
“To be able to hold an event like this – with a bunch of the best drivers, cars and teams in the sport, at a top-notch facility with a legit purse – is a huge feather in our cap as a group,” continued Rowe. “It’s been great to let the clutch out a few times this week and start getting ready for the 2016 J&A Services NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, too. We’ve already made some good eighth-mile runs and with the weather conditions down here, which are unbelievably good, I think we’re going to see some really impressive performances.”
Matusek echoed Rowe’s sentiment.
“We’re top billing,” said Matusek. “Our brand of drag racing, what we created – Real Pro Mod – is what they’re trying to sell, it’s the product they’re putting in front of their fans, and they see big value in it. It’s rewarding. To put all this time and effort into the group, having a dream of seeing Pro Mod as a standalone show – it’s extremely rewarding. It feels like we finally have a lot of momentum, and to get some recognition like this is great.
“There’s also something to be said for the inventory of cars we have,” Matusek continued. “These aren’t cars that are crossing over or bouncing around; these are teams that are dedicated to RPM, that have set the standard for Pro Mod that everyone has adopted. Again, it’s truly exciting to see our collective vision become a reality.”
Qualifying for Real Pro Mod “First Blood” starts at 4:00 PM on Friday, February 26th, with a second session slated for 6:00 PM. Qualifying then continues on Saturday with sessions at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Elimination rounds will start at 11:00 AM on Sunday.
