Elma, NY – This coming weekend marks a historic weekend for NHRA Drag Racing as it’s the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. The U.S. Nationals is considered the “Super Bowl” of drag racing and the best competitors from around the globe show up to compete. Winning Indy is an accomplishment most never get a chance to say they did. However, Mike Janis can say he’s on that winning list.
“Winning Indy last year is something no one can ever take away from us” said Mike Janis, Owner/Driver at Mike Janis Racing (MJR). “Most never get a chance to accomplish such an honor, so for that we are forever grateful. Last year is in the past though, and our main goal right now is to stay focused while taking one run at a time. There is going to be thirty-four of the best Pro Mod’s in the world competing for the sixteen car field. The only one I am concerned about though is the Jan-Cen Racing Engines/Mike Janis Superchargers Camaro which I drive. We can’t expect to just be good though. We need to be great this weekend so we have a shot at getting that points lead back. Sitting only eleven points back is less than one round which is a little jump away. Winning the 60th U.S. Nationals would for sure be another dream come true. We have Jan-Cen Racing Engines/Mike Janis Superchargers customers and manufacturers from all around the world from different forms of racing who come out to support us for this event and we owe it to them to be great. Building these business relationships is the reason I love my job. We are as ready as we are going to be,” said an elated Janis.
“Plain and simple, Indy is the show” said Mike Janis Jr., GM/Crew Chief at MJR. “I can try to down play the situation and say that there weren’t any nerves going into this weekend, but I would be lying. We have done extra homework this year and the results have paid off. By no means can we decide to take a “snack break” right now. We need to continue to study hard and put in those extra hours. Sitting 2nd in the points right now heading into the second half of the season is a very good spot for us to be. We normally tend to turn on the heat during the second half, leaving the first half with too many stones unturned. This year was different. We were able to turn those stones in the first half and put our team in the position for the 2014 NHRA Pro Mod Championship,” said Janis Jr.
NHRA Pro Mod qualifying starts Friday August 29th at 5:30 PM. Saturday August 30th, Pro Mod sessions are scheduled at 2 PM and 5: 30 PM. The 4th and final qualifying session is set for Sunday August 31st at 10:30 AM with 1st round of eliminations taking place at 2 PM. Final eliminations will take place Monday September 1st Labor Day at 12:00 PM. You can watch live and follow all weekend on www.espn3.com.
