LAS VEGAS, NV –Former NHRA Top Fuel racer Sidnei Frigo powered to the qualifying lead in the J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the NHRA Toyota Nationals Friday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
South American native Frigo covered the quarter-mile distance in 5.874 seconds at 251.67 mph in his Artivinco Racing Corvette in his second start in the popular 250 mph doorslammer category. Frigo also led qualifying following one of the sessions at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis earlier this season.
“It’s amazing,” Frigo said. “The guys are very good. I have an awesome crew. It is the second time for us to be No. 1 and it’s awesome.”
Steven Whiteley was second overall in his late model Cadillac CTS-V with a 5.876 at 246.12 and Gatornationals winner Bob Rahaim sits third in his silver TLC Waste Disposal Services Corvette with a 5.876 at 236.71.
Series points leader Mike Janis is qualified 12th with one round remaining. Janis posted a performance of 5.941 at 243.59 in his supercharged late model Camaro. Second-place Troy Coughlin qualified 14th in his JEGS.com Corvette with a 5.951 at 250.09.
The final qualifying session for the NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Series is Saturday at 11:45 a.m., followed by the opening round of eliminations at 3:15 p.m.
