Mike Castellana will debut a new Pro Mod in Englishtown along with a new sponsor. His new car, a nitrous-powered Jerry Bickel built Corvette with a Sonny’s Racing Engine under the hood, will feature the logos of Smithfield Foods and Western Beef, who are also the presenting sponsors of the NHRA/J&A Service Pro Mod Series event.
“This wasn’t an impulse purchase; we ordered the car four or five months ago,” said Castellana. “We tested it this past weekend in St. Louis while we were at a different sanctioned race and we were happy with the results.”
Right now Castellana is ranked #10 in points after three races. His car has been consistent, qualifying #2 in Houston and making it to the quarter-finals at the last two NHRA races. During the off-season, Castellana also won the Pro Mod Championship at the ADRL Races in Qatar.
As for his sponsor, if people don’t already know the name Smithfield Foods, they likely know their brands and even have a few products in their refrigerator. Smithfield Foods is a global food company and the world’s largest pork processor and hog producer. In the United States, the company is also the leader in numerous packaged meats categories with popular brands including Smithfield®, Eckrich®, Farmland®, Armour®, Cook’s®, John Morrell®, Gwaltney®, Nathan’s Famous®, Kretschmar®, Margherita®, Curly’s®, Carando® and Healthy Ones®. Their products are sold in Western Beef SuperMarkets, which has been a long time sponsor on Castellana’s car.
“We have enjoyed tremendous success through our motorsports program in recent years, and are excited to take our first step into the Real Pro Mod series this weekend,” said Bob Weber, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for Smithfield Foods. “This sponsorship provides us with an opportunity to expand our reach among racing fans, who we know enjoy our high-quality products such as bacon, ham, ribs, and marinated tenderloins. We’re proud and excited to be a part of this series with our valued retail partner, Western Beef.”
Pro Mod racing gets underway at the 2015 NHRA Toyota Summernationals on Friday, with the first round of qualifying beginning at 3:15.
